Job Vacancy – Operator Maintainer

The Opportunity

Rangitata Diversion Race Management Ltd (RDRML) is looking for an enthusiastic individual with an eye for detail that wants to be part of a small and highly effective operations team. Operator Maintainers at RDRML are responsible for the monitoring and control of the water diverted and conveyed into the RDR, and the basic maintenance of the scheme assets. The role provides a great mix of work activities, from managing the network of water control assets remotely via our SCADA network, undertaking periodic checks on assets, to managing contractors undertaking more in-depth work on the scheme.

The role would appeal to someone with a genuine curiosity into how discrete parts of a system operate and then come together to achieve the required result. The RDR is New Zealand’s largest water supply scheme, and the operational objective is to provide highly reliable water to our water users for their respective businesses.

The successful applicant will become a key member of the operations team that manages the system 365 days a year; this includes an on-call component as the duty operator (currently one week in three). The scheme is located in a stunning part of New Zealand, the Mid Canterbury foothills, spanning from the main river intake at the end of the Rangitata Gorge, to the Highbank power station on the Rakaia River.

The role requires hands-on use of technology (SCADA plus Microsoft suite of apps) so a high level of technology competence will be required by the successful applicant. A trade background (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) could be an advantage but is not essential.

Equally, as the race network is 67km long, safe driving on sealed and unsealed roads is a feature of the role. A clean NZ driver licence is required, as is an ability to safely operate a modern utility vehicle.

With the role comes with

  • A competitive salary
  • Vehicle for work purposes
  • Cell phone
  • Laptop
  • Medical insurance
  • Tool allowance
  • Home broadband allowance

Beyond these attractive role aspects, the RDRML is committed to developing its staff and maintain a healthy approach to their wellbeing.
